THE SWITCH IS ON
|
Patriots, our nation's infrastructure is constantly under attack by the bushytail horde. A prime target for nutzy terrorism is the power grid, the network of electrical facilities and production units that bring power to our homes. Should any part of the structure collapse, other sections may follow in a calamity similar to that which befell the grid on August 14, 2003.
For those who can't recall, on August 14, 2003, many residents of the eastern United States and Canada were smugly looking the other way as the state of California struggled with an unprecedented energy crisis that threatened to plunge it into darkness and economic ruin.
California survived its crisis with minimal discomfort, but at exactly 4:11 p.m Eastern Time, a 300 megawatt surge of electriticy suddenly moved east out of Ohio, abruptly reversed directions and overwhelmed the power grids servicing Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Vermont and Ontario, Canada. In all, it took a total of 9 seconds to darken 9,300 square miles and the lives of an estimated 50 million people (click photo for large map).
Initially, the collapse was blamed on everything from lightning in New York, to failing nuclear power plants in Pennsylvania to terrorists acting on Osama bin Laden's orders. However, a joint U.S.-Canadian Power Outage Task Force released an report in November 2003 placing the cause of the blackout on FirstEnergy Corporation's failure to trim trees in part of its Ohio service area.
The report goes on to say that aging infrastructure and lack of coordination contributed to the grid's rapid failure. Estimates to upgrade the grid are in the billions of dollars.
Needless to say, scary squirrel world conducted its own investigation of the 2003 blackout.
Our findings parallel the Task Force's with one major and supremely important exception: the trees that the utility companies failed to trim were and are infested with skwerls. These bushytail, terrorist varmints are conducting a systematic attack on North America's energy infrastructure.
Worse, while utility companies spend millions to skwerl-proof facilities, the governments of Canada and the United States seem oblivious to the threat. A threat that National Forest Service spokesperson Bob Woodward described as "the delusional fantasy of barely cognizant minds."
Patriots, Ranger Woodward may deny the truth and naysay our call to stop this skwerlball plot. However, the threat is real. Consider the following reports of attacks; atrocities that are increasing in frequency as summer approaches...

Patriots, this clear and present danger must be stopped. But how? A number of plans have been put forward...
For example, some suggest withdrawing Anti-Squirrel Coalition forces from affected areas. Concurrent to these withdrawals, control would be handed over to agents of skwerlhuggery on the condition that they contain their wanton, skwerlien debauchery to the abandoned regions and promise to refrain from spreading the false promises of squirrel world domination beyond the affected area - a Falluga Plan as it were...

Others point out that skwerls have an unnatural attraction to aluminum, the metal used to cover utility lines. They theorize that developing a bad tasting aluminum alloy or substitute will stop the bushytail horde's attacks. However, our experts note that these sabotages are almost always suicide attacks. Therefore, it is unlikely that changing the composition of the covering or wiring will have any substantial effect on the nutzys' efforts.
Still others maintain that redirecting federal and state tax dollars to repair and upgrade the electrical grid is the answer (click utiltiy company execs for comment - 158k wav).
However, the bushytail horde may have already subverted this solution by ordering it's minion, conqueror-president Bush(ytail) to use up all the money battling foreign devils and evildoers.
Thus, the burden of modernizing the grid falls directly on the utility companies' bottom line - an alternative that may produce more skwerl baffles on utility poles and higher consumer costs, but little else according to industry critics.
Patriots, whatever the solution, we think that time's a-wastin' in this battle against the rising tide of squirrel world domination. Sure, the switch is on now, but for how long? Therefore, we ask for your comments and ideas: how can we stop the bushytail plot to darken our nation?
