LOVE, LIKE A SKWERL
by Patriot Sean C.

Love, like a skwerl
Comes chittering in the night
Annoying the living crap out of me
Until I am forced to pay attention,
Moved to set traps for it
And purchase a mountain lion
To hunt it, to eat it, and all its
Nasty, furry progeny, destroyer of
The Flowerbeds and bringer
Of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

But Love, like the skwerl, is
Too clever for me and my puma,
So I commit mine puma friend
To a zoo, and I settle in
For the long, chittering darkness
Of Love,
Of Skwerls,
And, perhaps,
A club sandwhich, when the bacon
Is nice and lean
And my heart
Beats no more, but
Chitters,
Chitters,
Chitters . . .
