ONCE UPON A NITE
by Patriot Katz
I heard a quiet chittering, once upon a night.
I awoke in the dark, and was given such a fright.
The old clock in the hall chimed, heralding the hour
'Twas midnight, the time squirrels come into their full power.
My window open, curtains fluttering in the breeze,
My Guard Cat awoke, with a great snort and a soft wheeze,
And so he heard the terrible screams, caused by the fuzzy demon's bite,
And they drowned out that awful chittering, which haunts the damnable night.
But the fortunate I lived to see another morn, to be blessed by the sun's favor
For the Evil Squirrels had passed o'er me, in favor of my unfortunate neighbor.
