The setup menu is fairly straight forward. Use the drop down boxes to define the conditions affecting your populations. Then click ok. From there use the controls on the applet to start the simulation. Depending on the parameters you input, the oak trees begin to grow and produce acorns and the squirrels and hawks are introduced into the environment. It takes a while to get the hang of when to introduce the squirrels and hawks - just keep adjusting your numbers until you get the results you want.
You can check the progress of your populations by observing the head count and/or by clicking on the graph and chart buttons.
There's more to Jacobo's applet than shown in our demonstraion. We provide the applet for review purposes only. Jacobo's homepage includes the applet, a number of different experiments to perform along with sample quizzes, and other helpful information.
