One of the first things you probably notice when visiting Berry College is the abundance of happy, frolicking deer. While this appears charming at first, I am sad to say that I was a witness to true evil on the day that my friends and I discovered their hidden motives.
As we walked to lunch, my friend Catherine pointed to a small deer that appeared to be eating some nearby grass. However, as we drew closer, a small, ugly rodent could be seen hiding in a bush beside the deer. Speaking in chitters, the squirrel conveyed plans for the night attack. I pretended to tie my shoe (luckily the squirrel did not notice I was wearing sandals) and listened in, acting as though I knew nothing of the Squirrel Underground. Since I have not recently brushed up on my "Squirrelese," I was unable to understand much except for his closing remark...."First the campus, then the world!!"
Quickly I ran to catch up with the group. They could not understand my distress, and suggested that I go see the nurse. I then turned to the only people who would understand my anxiety....
Now, when I pull into campus at night, the glowing eyes of the deer along the streets hold a new meaning. For..if you look closer, you can make out two smaller pinpoints of light...so numerous that you can only distinguish them from stars by their slightly redder tint. Oh patriots!!! We must work together to fight them once and for all! Until then, no campus is safe....
